I begin teaching through John 10 this Sunday as I talk about the Good Shepherd, Jesus! In verse 27 of this chapter, Jesus states that His sheep listen to His voice: 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
How many times have you heard someone or been told by someone about an individual randomly opening the Bible, stabbing their finger on the page, and reading the verse their finger landed on to decide whether to move forward in a situation or stay put? Believe it or not, that is how many make their decisions in life. We could call it Bible Roulette!
Those who act upon such tactics for “guidance” do more harm to themselves as well as to others. The contrast between the Bible Roulette believer and the hearing believer is drastic. Jesus says, His sheep hear His voice. This, of course, is done through the contextual reading of a passage, and I would submit the guidance from godly men and women who will give you godly advice.
Proverbs 11:14 gives us this advice when looking for guidance in life: 14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
God guides us through His Word and the counsel of godly believers. Stop playing Bible Roulette and do it God’s way!
Blessings on your journey,
Gene
