1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and cis seated at the right hand of the throne of God. -- Hebrews 12:1-3

I’ve used this quote in previous devotionals, but it still remains one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite politicians, Sir Winston Churchill of England. I'm not quite sure why, but it might be because of his close connection to the Navy, as he once served as the First Lord Of The Admiralty.

He has so many quotes that are worthy to be stated, but for this devotion, I shall choose the one he gave to the student at Harrow School in 1941:

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

Based on what we've read above, believers are encouraged to stay strong in their faith, much like running a race with perseverance, all while keeping their eyes fixed on Jesus.

Jesus, the "founder and perfecter of our faith," exemplifies endurance, suffering the cross for joy set before Him. His example encourages perseverance. When weak, God renews us, as Isaiah 40:29-31 states.

Remembering God’s constant presence and His provision of strength keeps us motivated on the path He has laid out, trusting deeply in His love.

Gracious Heavenly Father,

Whenever we feel tired or overwhelmed, remind us to turn our eyes to Jesus, who is the perfect example of endurance. Fill us anew with your strength and help us to rely on your abundant grace and mighty power. We entrust our worries to you, confident in your loving care and trusting that you will complete the good work you have started in us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
